Experience
   Originally hailing from Portland Maine, Mark C. Austin has worked as a
pipe-organ designer, technician, restorer, installer and voicer since 1990.  
His original study in organbuilding was with Manuel Rosales of Rosales
Organbuilders in Los Angeles, and continued study in voicing and
restoration with John Decamp.  Mr. Austin was formerly curator of organs
at Stanford University and at the University of California and ran an
extensive pipe-organ service and restoration business in Northern
California. Before moving to Chicago, he lived in Portland Oregon from
2002-2006 to work as Pipe Projects Manager for Rodgers Instruments in
Hillsboro, where he has been responsible for over 300 new pipe and pipe
digital combination installations.
Mr. Austin holds a B. S. in Computer Science and a B. E. in Music
Education from the University of Maine, and M. Mus. from New England
Conservatory.  He has performed as singer and conductor with several
sacred and secular music ensembles.  Mr. Austin taught music at the
Secondary and Post-Secondary level, and has been a guest lecturer at
Stanford University and other institutions.  
He has been an active church musician since childhood, with some of the
more notable positions as: Assistant Choirmaster, St. Luke’s Cathedral,
Portland, ME; Chorister, Church of the Advent, Boston; Director of Music,
Holy Innocents, San Francisco; a singer with the Trinity Episcopal
Cathedral Choir and Trinity Consort, Portland Oregon, and most recently
singing with the choirs of St. Chrysostom's Episcopal, and Church of the
Ascension in Chicago.  Mr. Austin has served on local and regional boards
of the American Guild of Organists and is currently the editor of the
"Console Crier", the Chicago AGO newsletter. He is a member of the Organ
Historical Society and the American Institute of Organbuilders.
